mrs-roboto's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Summer of Cheapidy-Cheap-Cheap-Cheap! As some of you may know, Pete and I bought a house last December. We dropped about a gazillion dollars (that's the going price for a two bedroom home in Seattle these days) in order to realize the American dream. By the way, the American dream realized = brokesville! Back in the days of renting, we had a fairly sweet deal. We paid $750.00 for a two bedroom house with a yard. All repairs were the responsibility of the landlord (not that he took these responsibilities seriously)and we had a sizable amount of disposable income left over at the end of the month. Now I'm not much of a mathematician so I didn't realize that the monthly mortgage on a gazillion dollars is a whole hell of a lot more than $750.00 and our lending agency didn't bother to mention that till all the papers were signed. But what can you do? We love the neighborhood and the house is a good investment and we could finally get a dog. Where was I going with this again? Oh, yeah now we are poor and so we write out a very annoying budget and cut out all the extras (bye-bye Thai delivery guy and $45.00 facial cleansers, hello Ramen noodles and Ivory soap) and then we sit in our house and stare at one another glumly. What to do, what to do? So I came up with a plan to do all things free. Seattle is a pretty good place to find free stuff. For example, the Ballard Market always has free sample foods. Last night was guacamole and chips so Pete and I brought the portable TV and some chairs and set ourselves up real nice. It was a Mexican fiesta!
Okay, we didn't really do that but we did volunteer at the Seattle International Beer Fest which will entitle us to free admission, tokens for beer, and a free T-shirt. We also signed up to work at Bumbershoot so I will be enjoying the harmonious Modest Mouse free of charge. I am keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. If you know of any other free stuff stuff in the Seattle area or just want to have us over for a free dinner (we're not picky eaters, I swear) drop me a line! 12:05 p.m. - 2002-05-30 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
