Hi, Remember Me?
Hello? Is this thing on? Oh yeah, I guess it still works.
So merry belated holiday of your choice and happy New Year.
Have you ever taken someone's phone number with the promise of calling them
soon and then a week or two passes and you haven't made the call but you keep
thinking about how you should? And finally you decide too much time has passed and you throw
away the number because you don't want to go through all the apologizing and
excuses for not calling sooner? That's sort of how I feel about this journal
right now.
I haven't written. I was busy. And then I was lazy. And then I thought, where
do I begin? Perhaps, I'll just jot down thoughts. Bear with me and I assure
you I'll get back on track soon.
- Pete made my Christmas most memorable with a plethora of gifts including
a Creative
Zen Micro, Nigella's cookware
in a blue that matches my dining room perfectly, Freaks
and Geeks and Home
Movies on DVD, a bag from Queen
Bee Creations, this book,
and Lonely Planets South America tour book. In return, I got him a Garmin
GPS so we can finally get in on the geocaching that all the hip young
kids are doing. More importantly we plan to hike off trail in the wilds of
the Olympics this summer and we'll need a global positioning system so that
we can find our way back to the car. Oh and by "we," I really
mean Pete since I'll be back at the camp with a beer in hand tending the fire.
- We went to Lake Tahoe and spent many, many days with my crazy family who
actually almost managed to act sane about 85% of the time. Obviously, the
doctor has them on the right meds these days.
- My sister and I took my mother to a spa for Christmas where they performed
numerous treatments on her including massage, body scrub, and facial. Did
I mention my mom hates to be touched? Yeah, maybe not the best choice of gift.
While waiting in the Meditation Room for our services to begin (my sister
and I were both getting massages as well) we asked mom if she'd like some
tea or water. "What," she asked, "They have no coffee? Coffee's
not relaxing or something?" My sister had to explain that coffee is actually
the opposite of relaxing. In the end, I think mom may have enjoyed the day.
Either that or she was just too nice to tell us otherwise.
- I did a great deal of snowboarding in Tahoe and by snowboarding, I mean
landing on my face. Seriously, I am still black and blue.
- I also went tubing with my dad. I'm really good at tubing. In fact, I'm
an Xtreme tuber!
- Tahoe is beautiful but very dry and if you are staying in a casino, you
will get an electric shock every time you so much as walk near anything at
alll.
- We went on a horse drawn sleigh ride for my fathers 60th birthday (which
also happened while in Tahoe). It was really cold and my mom had gotten the
impression that the sleigh would be heated. It wasn't. Go figure?
- The Kenny Rogers slot machine is the coolest because when you cash out it
says "They'll be time enough for counting when the dealings done."
It made me laugh every time.
- If you take a plane ride in December be prepared to hear all the other passengers
sneezing and coughing and wheezing and then be ready to get ill yourself while
away.
- If you get a cold in a hotel room and are stuck in bed and the only thing
to watch is a marathon of The
Bounty Hunter just turn off the tv. Step away from the remote. There's
nothing to see there, trust me.
Alright, that's enough for now. I'll call you in a couple of days, okay? No
really, I totally will. Things are lightening up for me now and you know we
should get together or something. Okay, then. I'll give you a ring.
