I woke up this morning to find that the car I've been watching for a friend had had it's window smashed in last night. As far as I could tell, nothing had been taken but now I have to get the window replaced. The owner of the car is in Alaska and I can't reach her so basically this is all out of pocket till I next see her and then there's always the awkward "can you reimburse me for this" conversation I hate having with anyone. In other news, I got an email yesterday that really unnerved me. It was from the in-laws (sister, husband, and toddler) who are visiting (uninvited) July 4th weekend. It informed us of what we needed to pick up at the grocery store to sustain their child. Yes, a grocery list. Umm, when did it become unfashionable to be a good houseguest? When did we as a society decide you could make demands of those people who are giving you a free place to stay? Needless to say, I responded that we lived near a supermarket and I'd be happy to point them in that direction when they arrived. There was also a statement about child proofing which burned my bottom. About how we could all pitch in and watch the little tyke so he doesn't destroy crap. I don't for a minute buy into the whole "it takes a village" mantra. Your child, you watch him. He breaks anything in my house, I'll send you a bill. I will too. Yes, I am a bitch on wheels today. But I am looking forward to the evenings festivities; a dinner party hosted by Dishery & Co. They'll be pork products a plenty. And it's Thursday, which is pretty close to Friday.
