mrs-roboto's Diaryland Diary

Summer, Summer, Summertime

Boy, I guess I haven't had much to write as of late. I mean really, how many times can you read about how happy I am? How much of a difference the sun and outdoors make on daily life? How often I am smiling these days? To quote Timbuk Three, "the futures so (goddamn) bright I've got to wear shades." Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but lately I feel there's nothing to rant about. Life is moving along as planned. There are barbecues, camping trips, fine wine, and good music. There are wonderful friends (you know who you all are) and a sweeter than sugar spouse who randomly brought me flowers at work last week. There's dancing (okay there isn't any real dancing going on but it seemed to fit), lounging on the porch watching the sun drift down behind the mountains, fresh greens from Judy and Jiri's garden to spice up the salad days, and did I mention the sun? Oh, I did? Yes, it makes me smile.

How about some pictures instead of words?

We camped in the snow this last weekend. Yes, there's still some white stuff up on those mountains. Actually here's a complaint - snow is wet and cold to sleep on and when you call the DNR to request information on a the conditions of a site they never call you back. By the time we reached this meadow, the sun was going down and we had to set up for the night. Had I been thinking at all, I would have risked hiking back down the trail in the dark to sleep in the car. Jiri actually suggested just that but I guess my blood was pumping and I thought "we can do this, we can sleep in the snow, we are tough." And so we did. Yes, it can be done but prepare to be wet and uncomfortable. I did however earn the title of "most hearty as I was the only person without a mat to sleep on. The only thing separating me from snow was the vinyl of the tent floor and my sleeping bag. I am woman hear me roar! Actually, I took the dog into the bag with me and between the two of us we generated enough heat to stay alive.

This is from our Sunday hike. Note the lack of snow. Yes this was more my speed. The trail was easily hiked, there was beautiful scenery along the way, and the air was so fresh and clean.

Hey this is Jiri and Lou! A man and his dog - what's better than that?. Oh, and look at that water. Crystal clear, isn't it? It was cold and rushing and all the things a river should be.

.

Another shot of the river. Did I mention I am working inside an office today? Looking at these pictures makes me wish I was a Forest Ranger instead of a Communications Specialist. Excuse me while I go stare longingly out the office window at Mt. Rainier for a bit. Sigh.

Okay, I'm back - last picture.

One of the great things about living in a mostly rainy and wet but temperate climate is the flora and fauna you see in the Spring. Mushrooms are everywhere. We picked what we believed to be false morels (much like a real morel in taste and appearance) but sadly they turned out to be poisonous. Fear not, we're all alive. Judy and Jiri looked them up before we started stuffing them in our faces.

Yes, things are going well. I am looking forward to the long days that lie ahead. There are some good times on the horizon. Yet, none of this makes for very interesting reading so if I'm a bit quiet for awhile, know that it is only temporary. I should be back to my old, snarky self in no time at all and I'll be ready to mock "For Love or Money" or whatever god awful filler FOX puts on this Summer. Hope June is treating you well.
