"Toucha, Toucha, Touch Me....."

Is it just me who feels that every weekend should be three days long? No? I didn't think so.

So this was the weekend my parents were in town. I love my parents, I truly do and I miss them. Let me tell you how rad they are - check this out:

They bought me that at a yard sale! This was the coolest yard sale ever. The people conducting it had once owned a tattoo shop and they were selling all the framed flash art that hung on the walls of their parlor. It was so neat - dozens of framed anchors and hearts with banners and Jesus Christ and pin up girls. And then there were the larger paintings like the one above, which has found a new purpose as the piece d' resistance in my living room. It was only last night as I was lying in bed that I began regretting not buying all the flash art. I think it would have looked simply amazing in our home office. I mean what's funkier than having a room that looks like a tattoo shop but is actually the computer room ? Nothing is funkier, I tell you!

Other weekend activities with the parental units included a trip to the Ballard Locks, facials for mom and me, a BBQ with Judy and Jiri, and a trip to the Northwest Folk Life festival. In my five years of living here, I have never been to Folk Life. My main reason for avoiding it was my deep seeded fear of being knocked into by a spinning hippy covered in patchouli oil and singing Joan Baez songs at the top of her/his lungs and having to be hospitalized for the resulting concussion. It would be just pay back for all the mean things I say about those hemp wearing, granola eating, Grateful Dead listening......wait, I'll stop myself there before this gets ugly. Luckily, that didn't happen - no bodily injury was inflicted by an out of control hippy (truth be told my first preteen crush was on a hippy boy who thought I was a bit too "contemporary" in my thinking to be worth dating and thus began my dislike of this fringe society - tie die as a fashion statement didn't add to their appeal). Luckily, the festival wasn't nearly as new-agey as I feared. They had a pretty serious cultural bent that took into account the folk traditions of many different heritages. I got to see some crazy English sword dancing which I was certain would end in someone's ear being severed (sadly, it didn't) and a lot of stepping with napkins and hankies. They had a name for this type of choreography but damned if I can remember. Oh, and there was a face painting booth - boy, I loathe face painting. Who actually gets this type of thing done? Oh yeah, see the aforementioned rag on hippies. As an added bonus, I have finally acquired some mushroom art! I know what your thinking - whatever has become of our Mrs-Roboto? Will she be wearing wool socks and Birkenstocks when we next see her? Fear not! The mushroom art is simply a windchime made by soldering off the spoon tops and replacing them horizontally like this only mine is silver and looks pretty postmodern. I dig it, I really do but it will be a cold day in hell when you catch me wearing a fimo clay necklace with a psychedelic fungus imprint and a crystal accent.

Monday was spent naked with lovely Dishery at the Olympus Spa soaking in hot tubs and the having the top layer of our epidermis' scrubbed away. I have often thought about writing about my experiences at Olympus but there's really no way to describe it. A small slice of heaven falls short of how perfect a place this is. The best endorsement I can give is that is well worth the trip to Tacoma (an hour away from Seattle for you non-locals) - this from the girl who has anxiety over leaving the seven mile radius that is Ballard. And Dishery was the perfect person to go with on this particular Monday because she was willing to just go with the flow and unwind which was what I was desperately in need of. Anyway, my skin feels like silk today and every time someone walks by my desk I tell them they absolutely must touch me. I think I'm weirding out the couriers and the mail person looked pretty put off too. The UPS guy didn't have a problem though! Go figure.

Well, that's the weekend in a nutshell. I hope you had a brilliant time this holiday. I know I did.
